Technology demons banished

November 17, 2008

Well this time around the scanner and computer actually decided to talk to each other. So here are the other note worthy images from the last roll.  All of these images are from the Potapsco river valley.

I am of course working on my ‘waterfall blur’ technique, but I think it is coming along nicely. It is a bit over done as some may claim, but it is an often copied technique because, frankly, it just looks so nice.

I have to credit the Photographer William Neill for this as his work Impressions of Light inspired me to give impressionistic photography a try. I only did two trial snaps on the last roll, but I actually rather like this one of them. The idea is to use a longer then normal shutter speed and pan, rotate or zoom during the exposure to cause an abstract image to be created on the film/sensor. In this case I used 1/4s exposure while panning vertically (Image of fall trees).

Pox on technology

November 13, 2008

Yes you heard me right. I could care less that I am writing this on a computer or posting this on the internet or that my job intimately involves computers. I curse technology. First I think we would all be better of without all of the techno gadgets in our life and I am a bit of back to nature type (just don’t take my double ply TP or my nylon bristle tooth brush) and second the double danged computer at work that has Photoshop CS2 on it won’t recognize the scanner now and the other computer with a scanner doesn’t have access to a network drive. Solution scan at low res and email the files to myself for editing. Whheeeee, what fun. Oh and because of my thrice danged email only 3 of the 9 files actually got to me.

*sigh*, I’ll have to see if I can’t fix that computer (or get someone else to fix it). I really, really need a scanner to call my own.

Here are three of the pictures I took recently, sorry that the quality is even lower then usual. This is from a local lake, the pictures from Potapsco state park never made it to me. I’ll have to rescan them some time later if I can get that scaner and computer to play nicely with each other. All images were taken on Reala 100.

I had a chance to hike through Potapsco State park last Friday and managed to capture a number of really nice images. The fall colors were really nice and it was a great way to streach my legs on my lunch hour. I am hoping the weather will be nice again this Friday so that I can head back and try to catch the trees as they are hitting peak colors, well maybe just slightly past peak by then.
