Gorillapod

The Joby Gorillapod SLR tripod was the first tripod I ever purchased. It is a mini-tripod, but somewhat unique in the fact that it doesn’t have fixed legs. Its legs are bendable so that you can wrap them around an object for support or change their angle to give better camera support or to place the camera on an uneven surface. The maximum capacity of the tripod is 1.75lbs, not much, but enough for a lightweight SLR (like an OM) and a light lens such as a wideangle or standard lens. The tripod is 9.8″ in total height and weighs 5.8oz. It provides resonable stability, but I wouldn’t expect to much out of it. It performs better when wrapped around something then when functioning as a traditional tripod. I have managed a few 1/2-10s exposures that have turned out just fine using this tripod. I use this tripod for a mini-tripod when traveling light. I purchased it off Amazon for about $30.
