 Lens Pouch

The Vivitar 300mm f/5.6 lens that acquired didn’t have a lens case or pouch and it is slightly too long to comfortably fit in my camera bag. To protect the lens better and to avoid simply wrapping it in a shirt and throwing it in a backpack I made a custom pouch for the lens.

I went to my local crafts supply store and purchased some fleece fabric, a yard of draw string and a draw string clamp. Some cutting and sewing later and I have a double thickness fleece lens pouch. The pouch should provide some much needed protection against bumps and scratching.

I will likely make custom lens pouches for most of my lenses over time, especially for ones that don’t come with a lens case and/or won’t fit in my camera bag easily.

Hi from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Canada. I have 2 lenses that I’m having a heck of a time finding snug fitting pouches for. I can’t tell you how many pouches I’ve ordered off of ebay only to be disappointed when they arrive. My lenses are:
    1. Pentax 40mm pancake: 60mm wide X 40mm long, and
    2. Mir 47K: 85mm wide X 75mm long.

Someone can create a good business making custom lens bags because they are very hard to find…

Anyway, are you still offering this service, or know who might be?

    Thanks, Ken

Life has kind of swamped me under lately, so I am not making lens pouches right now, though I may start doing it again someday. As for someone who might be, I haven’t found any one. An option you may want to try is finding a lens or two that is in fairly similar proportions and then searching Ebay for original lens pouches that came with those lenses.

Try order some lens pouches from dealextreme.com (here: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11197 ). Cheap and acceptable quality.
