As many have probably already heard, Panasonic announced today their New Panasonic Lumix 12-35mm f/2.8 weather sealed constant aperature zoom lens. It looks like a honey, light at about 300g and the early sample reviews pouring in today all praise its optical qualities (sharp, low distortion, minimal vignetting, low/absent CA). Sounds like a winner.
Downsides are is that is a rather pricey, $1,299 according to the just posted Amazon pre-order. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-H-HS12035-LUMIX-12-35mm-Series/dp/B00843ERMW/?tag=rumors04-20
However, that is still significantly less than Nikon or Canon offerings for their 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses (about 1,900 for either). That doesn’t mean I hadn’t hoped that this would have come in closer to $1,000. A lens I’ll be lusting after, but probably not one that I’ll be able to afford any year soon (and at that probably a used copy a few years from now).
