Olympus officially announced the M.Zuiko 75mm f/1.8 lens. An early review http://fourthirds-user.com/2012/05/exclusive_handson_preview_of_the_new_olympus_mzuiko_75mm_f18.php
Overall it sounds like a stellar lens. Likely one I won’t be able to afford for years to come, but one I definitely want to pickup at some point. Price seems a little variable, but it sounds like it will actually be $899 in the US.

Still waiting on my E-M5. I know you are probably sick and tired of hearing about it by now. Probably about as sick and tired of hearing about it as I am of waiting. One decision I think I have finally come to is that even though I am “locked in” to B&H now that I’ve had the flash for well over a month (IE outside of the return period), I am maybe not as locked in as I had thought. I had been thinking of it as not being able to switch my order to someone else without losing the rebate on the flash. Well I would…but I could also still order a 2nd FL300r with the E-M5 with someone else and get the rebate that way (Olympus officially extended the rebate period through the end of June). Sure I’d lose the rebate on the one flash, but either I’d have two FL300r for the price of one, or else I could turn around and sell one of them on Ebay for a slight loss. Frankly at this point I’d gladly pay a $40-50 premium just to get the darned camera now. Something tells me I won’t be able to pickup a body only anywhere (without paying a huge premium), but I’d also gladly pay the premium to get the black + 14-42 kit. Then either keep the kit lens and use it on my wife’s E-PL1 and sell the older 14-42 or sell the newer one. Again, losing a bit of money, but at this point an extra $100 or so in total “cost” isn’t that a big deal compared to a $1,000 camera (10% premium) and the fact that I am running up on a serious deadline of late June. I have a little bit still, but not a lot.

As it stands it sounds like only a very small handful of people have gotten silver body only kits so far in the US. Silver + 12-50 kits are trickling out and it sounds like a lot of people even in to mid to late March have now gotten theirs…but they also started shipping in some way a couple of weeks ago. If the Silver body only kits follow that trend it is going to be at least another week or two to start shipping those in volume to the US and another week or three to “catch up”. So if the silver body only kits follow the trend of the silver + 12-50 seems to be following there is actually a decent chance I will NOT get the camera in time for my 4th of July vacation (or even the rebate period). At least at this point with as little information as I have to work off of, I can’t help feeling like it is maybe a 50/50 chance of getting the camera in time if I don’t try to jump on a different kit that comes up early (still hoping to maybe switch to a black body only or 14-42 kit with B&H).

Anyway, that is the little news from me and my sad moping. A little work this morning and then off to my son’s last-day-of-preschool-for-the-year-picnic and then off to the beach for the weekend.

Also last week I took my son to a theater in the round (his Preschool field trip) to see Peter Rabbit. We both had a lot of fun and I think it is probably the first time I have seen Peter Rabbit in probably 15 years.
