One of our local farms is U-Pick-it, which can be a lot of fun with the kids so that they can see where their food comes from. It is also nice for the adults, as the prices are somewhat lower than grocery store prices as well and its all grown semi-organically (not sprayed with pesticides at least).
Every fall we go and pick a whole bunch of apples so that I can make a couple of gallons of apple sauce and some apple pies. Yesterday we ended up picking 37lbs of apples and I made just a bit over 1 gallon of apple sauce out of about 11lbs of apples. Next weekend I’ll probably make another gallon and the rest will go in to pies or eaten as is.
