My family has a tradition every veteran’s day (on or about) to go to Washington DC for the day. Our first stop is inevitably the Air and Space Museum followed by the Natural History Museum and then home. That is generally about the extent of our endurance with the kids being so young. In a couple of years though, we’ll probably be able to make a real full day out of it instead of half a day.
Something we have found is that on a weekend, DC usually isn’t too crowded on veteran’s day. During the week, the day of veteran’s day is a BAD time to go as so many people have off which means it is A) A great time for schools to have field trips since they get can lots of chaperons or B) People who have off decide to take their kids out of school and visit DC. So when veteran’s day falls during the week, I take the day off before or after and we go in then, usually finding the museums rather empty.
This year we had fantastic weather as well as light to moderate crowds. Something I have definitely found is that shooting with primes can be a little difficult sometimes with the kids so young. Plenty of times I just plain don’t have the time to change-up a lens if I want a shot. In general though I’ve found that the Panasonic 14/2.5 just stays on the camera most of the time. I do wish I had a 12/2 though for something a little wider and sometimes faster, though with the OM-D E-M5 and 14/2.5 shutter speed isn’t frequently an issue.
Today’s post covers the Air and Space Museum and getting there.
